Microchipping

DON’T LOSE ME – MICROCHIP ME!

Here at Rothesay Bay Veterinary Clinic we microchip pets every day.  Whether you have a dog or a cat we recommend that they are microchipped,  so if they are ever lost, they can be easily reunited with you.

If you have a few questions about the process, here is a bit more detail.

How does microchipping work?

The microchip is no bigger than a grain of rice. It is implanted through a quick injection, just between the shoulder blades of your dog or cat and it is a practically pain-free process. Once implanted, your pet can’t feel the microchip. Your pet’s microchip stores a unique 15 digit identification number that is linked to your contact information. When the microchip is scanned, it emits a radio frequency signal, which allows the scanner to read the ID number.

Once the microchip is implanted we will upload the information to the New Zealand Companion Animal Database so you will have peace of mind straightaway.   Your pets registration will be confirmed by email  which also allows you to change any of your details if, for instance, you move or change your phone number.

How long does it take?

The procedure is very quick and can be done during a check up.

How can I get my pet microchipped?

If you want your dog or cat microchipped, just call us today on 09 479 7282 or email our clinic at reception@rothesaybayvet.co.nz  and make an appointment as soon as possible.
